Pregnant Photography

You might not feel at your photographic best as you're nearing the end of your pregnancy, but more women are choosing to pose for maternity portraits. So, why should women have maternity portraits taken?

As women only pregnant for such a short time, compared to the lifetime spend with children, the fleeting moment of pregnancy is so precious, and once the baby arrives, it's hard to remember what it was like to still have that wonderful belly.

Taken at the right circumstance, maternity portraits would be a beautiful images that will be remembered for years. However, like any other things in life, some of it will not turning the right way.

These are some of the strangest, weirdest, and most humorous photos of pregnant women that have ever been taken. I suppose some people just have a strange way of celebrating a birth. Whatever the reason they are funny to look at.

Alice In Cool Waterland

What if Alice, after falling and falling inside the Rabbit hole, ended straight to the ocean? And what if the ocean surrounded a small island in the Bahamas? Although it may seem confusing, Elena Kalis imagined an underwater version of the classic Alice in Wonderland tale, only that this time it's Alice in… Waterland!

Elena Kalis is a visual artist that was born in Russia and is specialized in underwater photography. She has been living for the last ten years in the Bahamas and for the new version of the story she chose her daughter as the perfect model. The results are some really fascinating photos that not only transmit all the surrealism and imagination of the original story, but take it a step forward.

Between a mermaid and a survivor of a shipwreck, caught between fantasy and reality, the new Alice looks more beautiful than ever.

National Geographic Photo Contest 2011 - The Winner

After receiving more than 20,000 photo submissions from over 130 countries, the National Geographic Photo Contest 2011 concluded last month and the judging began. The winners were announced this week, with the grand prize awarded to Shikhei Goh for his capture of a dragonfly riding out a rainstorm in Indonesia. Goh was awarded $10,000 and a trip to the National Geographic Photography Seminar next year.

National Geographic has shared the following winning photos (and honorable mentions) from this year's contest here. All captions and photos are by the individual photographers.

"Splashing", Grand Prize Winner and winner of the Nature category. This photo was taken when I was taking photos of other insects, as I normally did during macro photo hunting. I wasn't actually aware of this dragonfly since I was occupied with other objects. When I was about to take a picture of it, it suddenly rained, but the lighting was just superb. I decided to take the shot regardless of the rain. The result caused me to be overjoyed, and I hope it pleases viewers. Location: Batam, Riau Islands, Indonesia. (© Shikhei Goh)

"The Fjellman Family", winner of the People Category. One shot and the reindeer is dead. The Sámi family Fjellman, which lives in Arjeplog, northern Sweden, now have food on their table. In the early autumn they slaughter a couple of their reindeer for food during the cold winter months. Location: Arjeplog, Lapland, Sweden. (© Izabelle Nordfjell)

Cool Dance Photography

Dancing has evolved many styles. Breakdancing and Krumping are related to the hip hop culture. African dance is interpretive. Ballet, Ballroom, Waltz, and Tango are classical styles of dance while Square and the Electric Slide are forms of step dances.

Every dance, no matter what style, has something in common. It not only involves flexibility and body movement, but also physics. If the proper physics is not taken into consideration, injuries may occur.

Photography of dance is also an art. Look at the most beautiful photographs of dancing people.
